There are some beliefs about gambling which are common amongst people who have trouble with their gambling.
For example:
1. I believe that if I keep going I am bound to win soon;
2. I believe that if I keep going that I will win back what I have lost;
3. I believe that gambling is the only way to escape from my financial problems;
4. I believe that gambling is the only escape from the stress in my life at the moment;
5. I have a system which means that I can win;
6. If I have an urge to gamble, the only way to get rid of the urge is to gamble;
7. I believe that I can pick when a certain machine is more likely to win, either by the time of day or the pattern of use;
8. I believe that if I do certain things, like use a particular finger to press the button, I can increase my chances of winning.
These types of statements often can push gamblers to gamble more.
If one or more of these statements apply to you, it is possible that your gambling could be developing into a problem.
