"Exercising a Wiser Choice" is a project involving the City of Kingston, Women’s Health in the South East (WHISE) and Gambler’s Help Southern.
This project aims to involve older women (50 plus) in the City of Kingston in recreational and social activities to encourage health and well being through physical exercise, recreational enjoyment and the formation of friendships with other participants.
The activities can include Tai Chi, Pilates, Strength Training, Walking Groups, Swimming, Tap Dancing, Musical Events and Book Clubs …. just to name a few.
In 2003 the project offered a Free Afternoon Tea for Women at the Mentone Council Chambers which proved to be a very popular event with enjoyable guest speakers and local community houses advertising their activities. Another success was a Musical Extravaganza held at the Chelsea Heights Community Centre. In 2004 the project aims to offer another Free Afternoon Tea for Women in the Chelsea area as well as Peer Leader Training for women interested in developing skills to facilitate women’s activity and social groups.
If anyone is interested in more information about this project, or would like to participate in either the activities or to do the Peer Leader Training Course, please contact Monique Thomson, Community Educator on 9575 5361
